Fires, peatland and early warning

Where: NGO Responses and Action

IRI and its partners have developed an early-warning system to reduce the risk of these fires occurring. Uncontrolled fires in Indonesia's Central Kalimantan have destroyed vast peatland forest areas, ruined livelihoods, and led to massive releases of smog and greenhouse gases.  However, farmers need to be able to at least have controlled fires to better tend the land. This video from the International Research Institute for Climate and Society explains why and how.
