Marcos Savini

Marcos Savini, head of Energy and Environment at the Mission of Brazil to the European Union, discusses issues around forestry. He considers how Brazil is dedicated to preserving its forests, the national plans to fight deforestation, address land use and implement reforestation. He makes the point that Brazil’s path to development shows a high awareness of the importance and diversity of the Amazon. It’s not a case of development versus protection. He believes carbon trading could be a useful tool but consideration needs to be paid to the amounts. He reminds us that the biggest problem is still energy efficiency and the industrial sectors.
