Meenakshi Raman (June 2010)

Where: Bonn 2010: 31st SBSTA & SBI; 12th AWG KP & 10th AWG LCA

Meenakshi Raman, from the Third World Network, talks about the policy analyis and campaigning their organisation does, from a developing world perspective. She expresses alarm over the belief the negotiations are going backwards, not forwards. She refers to the Kyoto Protocol and how, under the Copenhagen Accord, it could be dismantled. She makes the point that the current Annex I targets will lead to a temperature rise of up to four degrees. She expresses frustration at the lack of leadership to the negotiations and urges for an aggregate target to the Second Commitment Period. She makes the point that the EU has a big role to play, but says they are being undermined and accuses them of hiding being "newcomer-on-the-block" US.
