COP20 (03/12/14) – Peter Minang discusses the need for a shift in the way we tackle deforestation, away from a focus purely on conservation towards a more holistic approach that looks at the issue from the perspective of development. He highlights need to help people living in these areas through education, finding alternate sources of employment, and through developing sustainable methods of landscape management. He also draws attention to the need for increased finance for this process arguing that this needs to come from both the public and private sector.
