CBD COP11 (9/10/2012) – Mangal Man Shakya, chairman of the Wildlife Watch Group, a Nepalese NGO, outlines his expectations for the Hyderabad biodiversity conference, asserting that parties must continue to work on the targets set for the Nagoya protocol, agreed at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity conference two years ago.
Shakya also describes the conservation challenges facing Nepal and the particular importance of conservation in a nation home to ‘keystone species’ such as tigers, rhinoceroses and elephants.
Shakya also expresses his hope that the Nepalese government, and governments in wider Asia, can recognise the benefit of collaborating with NGOs such as his own.
