Rio Conventions Pavilion TV, CBD COP11 (16/10/2012) – Dr Peter Pechacek, Conservation Biologist at the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, gives his hopes for COP11 and his perspective on how environmental challenges can be better addressed.
Pechacek says that he hopes COP11 will bring tangible results that directly translate into the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources.
Pechacek argues that good data is already available that demonstrates worldwide biodiversity decline but he believes this message needs to be made more accessible to the wider public.
Pechacek states his view that the academic world takes up new ideas quickly but he maintains that research and ideas must be more rapidly transmitted to policy-makers to be used in decision-making if we are to adequately address environmental concerns.
