CBD COP11: India strives for sustainable and inclusive growth

Rio Conventions Pavilion TV, CBD COP11 (17/10/2012) – BMS Rathore of the Indian Ministry for Environment & Forest gives the Indian government’s perspective on environmental and developmental issues.

Rathore explains that the Indian government’s 5-year plan talks repeatedly of sustainable and inclusive growth, seeking to ensure both equity and environmental protection.

Rathore emphasises that 170 000 villages in India depend on their immediate ecosystem for their livelihoods, reinforcing an earlier point made my UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Pavan Sukhdev.

Rathore also describes the National Mission for Green India, part of the national action plan on climate change, which seeks to both act on climate change and provide tangible benefits to 3 million households.
