COP18: Drylands can be part of climate solution

COP18 (29/11/12) – Patrice Burger, Executive Director of Centre d’Actions et de Réalisations Internationales (CARI) explains how climate change is ultimately reflected by what happens on land.

Drylands are already under stress as a result of poor land management but Burger says climate change is exacerbating this damage.

He says there should be more discussion about land use in the climate change debate and that land can also be part of the solution with soils an effective carbon sink.

The problem of land degradation is severe enough in some countries to account for a loss of 10-15% of GDP.
