COP20 (11/12/14) – Paris’ climate action plans include reducing emissions by 25% by 2020, working on energy efficiency and developing green energy. They are working on implementing these actions on the City of Paris administration and then in the rest of the territory. Examples of actions include retrofitting 25,000 social housing units, bikes and car sharing schemes, and building a network of citizens involved in sustainable development.
Paris will announce their adaptation strategy for 2015, which will have three main axis: increase knowledge of Paris’ vulnerabilites, increase awareness and develop public policies such as reducing the urban heat island effect. Blauel concludes that cities need to cooperate more with states and the UN to tackle climate change.
