Andrew Deutz, the Nature Conservancy’s director of international government relations, discusses the status of the negotiations give the uncertainty on the part of US domestic policy and he speculates on what the coming months may hold in terms of US domestic action and how that will have an impact on the upcoming talks in Copenhagen. Deutz says international negotiations have become a “game of chicken” between the US and everyone else, and he says that situation might result in a weaker-than-expected deal in Copenhagen. He also speculates that over time climate change may start to resemble the Doha round of WTO negotiations or international arms negotiations.
