Rio+20 (17/06/2012) – Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary, UNCCD warns that we can not go carbon neutral without also going land degradation neutral and that hand in hand with land degradation comes life degradation.

He says he is encouraged to see so much more awareness on the issues of desertification but warns there are still many misconceptions on what it is.

He calls on the heads of states coming to the Rio+20 conference this week to show leadership and provide drive on desertification and the scaling up of the work and the successes which are already taking place at grass roots level.

He warns that without clear commitment on desertification, world peace is at stake.
