Rio+20: Bringing the favela to the beach

Rio+20 (17/06/2012) – Sarah Swolfs and Patricia Padilha talk Pavilion TV through their installation for the Rio+20 conference.

Made from hundreds of plastic boxes used by those who live in the favelas to carry food, and bound together by plastic ties the structure is inspired by the homes built in the city’s shanty towns. It has a simple window that looks out on the sea.

Sat alongside Rio’s famous Copacabana beach, the structure is weighed down with tonnes of sand.
