Rio+20: Protesting for future generations

Rio+20 (17/06/2012) – Alistair Whitby from the World Future Council talks to Pavilion TV about the youth protest lobbying to get the formation of a High Commissioner on future generations back into the negotiating text.

Having been present until recently, the position was removed from the text by Brazil and the G77 and Whitby says that it is vital it happens as it would offer the platform for future generations to have a say and a stake in the future and give them a place at the negotiating table.

He says that it is the youth who really understand the impacts what the current crises will have on future generations – both their own and those yet to be born – and they offer a new passion to the negotiations.
