Rio+20 (19/06/2012) –Michel Jarraud, Head of WMO talks to Pavilion TV about the importance of the relationship between scientists and decision makers.
He says it is not easy and while more progress is being made, and decision makers are beginning to recognise the science, it is still not sufficient. However, he says it is also up to the scientists to provide the information in a way that it can be used by all stakeholders from the top governments to the farmers and fisherman on the ground.
He says there are clear signs of encouragement at the Rio+20 summit, giving the examples of the references in the text about the need to prevent and prepare for natural disasters and of the rights to clean drinking water and sanitation.
