Rio Conventions Pavilion TV, CBD COP11 (12/10/2012) – N. B. Brindavanam, Head of Bio Resources Development at the Dabur Research & Development Centre, discusses how his business is being affected by new biodiversity challenges.
Brindavanam affirms that his business, which produces natural medicines, depends on medicinal plants and that they recognise that sustainable resource management is essential to the future success of the company.
Brindavanam explains that he has come to COP11 to attempt to understand the current political situation so that he can adapt the company to it.
Brindavanam also outlines some of the specific challenges facing his business in coming years. He states that not only is demand for natural medicinal products growing 15 to 20% percent each year, but also the management practices currently governing there production are not effective. He believes that both technological and market intervention is needed to allow the industry to thrive.
