CBD COP11: Ecology invisible in the economy without a dollar value

Rio Conventions Pavilion TV, CBD COP11 (16/10/2012) – Johannes Förster, TEEB Associate at the UFZ, describes the role of The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) in biodiversity policy.

Förster explains that at these negotiations he has been working alongside UNEP to organise side events on The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity.

Förster says that the CBD secretariat is a strong supporter of mainstreaming the economic value of ecosystems and biodiversity into decision making, which he argues allows their value to be visible to decision-makers and so better accounted for in policy-making.

Förster gives an example of private sector engagement with TEEB in Puma’s work analysing their environmental impact throughout their supply chain.
