Rio Conventions Pavilion TV, CBD COP11 (19/10/2012) – Svenja Fox, Junior Researcher, Environment Policy Research Centre talks about her work researching the impacts of human activities on mountain ecosystems and the way that development can happen in a sustainable manner.
She says that two years into the UN Decade on Biodiversity, there are still major gaps and believes that countries are still in the phase of preparation and contextualization and not yet at the stage of real action.
But she adds that there has been some positive action and countries are on their way to mainstreaming biodiversity into policy. She uses the example of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity which has now opened in Bonn and says there are a lot of business and research initiatives which are beginning to implement the ideas set out in Nagoya.
