COP18: Doha march shows Qatari ambition on climate change

COP18 (30/11/2012) – Ali Fakhry, Media Campaigner for IndyAct, describes the aims for today’s Climate Action Network press conference to convey analysis and ideas on messaging ahead of Saturday’s march in Doha.

The march is the first ever in the history of modern Qatar, he says, and took  seven months planning. For a country that exports natural gas and is a member state of OPEC, he says that this march against climate change marks a regional shift, and shows the willingness of Arab countries to take responsibility for tackling climate change.

He thinks this march will aim to push the Qatari government to make ambitious pledges, and lead other countries to do the same through their COP presidency.
