COP20 (03/12/14) – Tanay Sidki Uyar talks about the effect the country’s fossil fuel industry is having on its energy policy. He argues that Turkey could cheaply transition to 100% renewable energy by 2020 and describes Turkey’s huge natural potential for renewables. He goes on to discuss how the apparent failure of decision makers in Turkey to move towards renewables might stem from the country’s political system. He also talks about the risks of continuing to invest in natural gas and highlights the benefits of renewable energy for Turkey particularly in terms of local employment and equity.
