Carol Turley, Plymouth Marine Laboratory

Carol talks about the importance of the oceans in regulating the planet and climate change. She explains that the ocean absorbs 90% of the heat from global warming; melting sea ice and ocean expansion due to warmer oceans is leading to sea level rise, and as oceans absorb 30% of atmospheric carbon dioxide oceans are acidifying. This has massive implications for marine ecosystems and humans who depend on the ocean for their weather, atmosphere, food, tourism and particularly people living in coastal states. Turley is pushing for a world that must stay well below the 2-degree limit and her goal is to make sure that ocean issues are part of the negotiations at COP21 and subsequent COPs.
