Brazilian Climate Change Ambassador, Sergio Serra explains why we’re not being ambitious enough over targets. He says although the Copenhagen Accord has imperfections and shortcomings, it’s an important step forward to Cancun, and then South Africa. His dismay over the EU’s retention of a 20% target, and US congress delay, is clear, but he is sceptical this will improve in the short term. He thinks the fifth IPCC report will recommend revised numbers, but for now “we have to work with what we’ve got”. He reminds us that if we stay with these numbers, we could be in trouble.
