Rio+20 (17/06/2012) – Professor Kim Seong-il, Seoul National University, talks to Pavilion TV about the problem of land degradation in North Korea.
He says from observing satellites they can see that over the last 20 years more than one million hectares of forests have been lost in the country, causing problems including flooding, drought and land degradation.
He says the country must take action and adopt measures to combat deforestation and should adopt the UNCCD’s ‘Zero Net Land Degradation’ initiative to stop the problem.
