COP18: Developed countries must show commitment to the survival of the LDCs

COP18 (26/11/12) – Julius Ningu, Director of Environment, Vice President’s Office, United Republic of Tanzania talks about what the Least Developed Countries and the African Group expect from COP18. He says the unresolved issues of COP17 must be agreed in Doha.

He talks about the importance of developed countries signing up to the second commitment of the Kyoto Protocol, and asks how the world would be able to manage and track the greenhouse gas emissions of the developed world without such a legal agreement.

He says the principle issue is how sensitive and committed parties are to lowering their emissions and ensuring the survival of the LDCs.

He calls for countries to not only pledge greater ambition but also to show how this would be implemented on the ground at a practical level.
