COP18 (26/11/12) – Abiodun Odunuga, a youth climate advocate at HEDA Resource describes his work raising awareness on a local level to supplement government policy frameworks to tackle climate change.
The workshops and seminars, run in Nigeria for young people and adults, have helped to undermine the notion that climate change is a myth by highlighting current impacts of global warming. Odunuga believes that tangible solutions at a grassroots level can help local people “combat this menace”.
He is working to make sure that sustainable development is not just talk, but is put into practice. His project manages initiatives to show youth and local people that their own simple actions are part of the solution, and that tackling issues like deforestation is not the government’s job alone.
