COP18: Those displaced by climate change need recognition

COP18 (06/12/2012) – Catherine Pelling from Global Voice describes how migration and loss and damage are regionally topical issues to Australia that she has engaged with over the past year.

She sums the conference up as an overwhelming and incredibly frustrating experience, as a lot of the negotations on loss and damage have been closed to observers, and the content coming out is not achieving the goals that she, snd many other countries, hoped would be reached here. However, she says that we can’t expect all the answers here, and that it is an important opportunity for countries to form partnerships.

She finishes by saying that she will never be able to ignore climate change as such a big issue for her future, and says that she will probably dedicate her whole life to achieving recognition for those displaced by the impacts of climate change.
