COP18 (01/12/2012) – Liane Schalatek, Associate Director at Heinrich Boll Stiftung, explains how the Green Climate Fund (GCF) has a wonderful opportunity right now to be the first international multilateral fund that could be gender responsive from the start.
She says that the GCF already includes key gender references on women’s participation in its constitution, and it is vital that they are now properly implemented. This will mean ensuring a gender balance in the GCF’s independent secretariat, including gender expertise in the fund, and making sure the participatory process allows for outreach and inclusion of women as important stakeholders.
She notes that it is important that it is not just countries that have direct access to the fund, but also marginalised bodies like community groups and indigenous communities.
