COP18 (04/12/12) – Professor Barbara Norman, Foundation Chair, Urban and Regional Planning, University of Canberra talks about the vast amount of the population in Australia who will live in coastal regions and be inundated by rising seas in the future.
She says there is a concerted effort at national, regional and local level to tackle and adapt to climate change in Australia but that it is not coordinated. She says the government has set the right signals with a carbon price.
She talks about he action that will be taking place at the local regional and city level and how there has been a strong focus on this at this year’s COP. She says it offers a great opportunity for cities and regions to share knowledge and says there is a lot of innovation around the world that cities can learn from.
