Li Junfeng, China’s Climate Commission
The Head of China’s Climate Commission says technology transfer cooperation is the key to curbing its spiralling carbon emissions.
China is unusual in that it is both the world’s biggest emitter, and also the most prolific investor in renewable energy systems.
According to a UNEP report published in June, investment in renewable energy reached £165bn in 2011, double the total in 2007.
Speaking to RTCC, Li Junfeng said tech transfer and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) issues needed to be addressed at the UN climate talks.
“Without that it is very difficult for the developing country to have new technologies,” he said.
“We need to work together for the cooperation, co-research on low carbon technologies. IP issues and tech transfer should be combined together.”
