COP19 (14/11/2013) – Bettina Koelle and Emmanuel Seck talk about adaptation finance and how it supports the most vulnerable groups to better cope with the impacts of climate change.
Seck says it was an important decision to establish the adaptation fund but that unless we mitigate more, adaptation will become more costly.
Speaking about the beneficial impact the adaptation fund has had in Senegal, Seck says there has been lots of projects that have been implemented since receiving the fund. He says it has been a catalyst to stimulate local development.
Koelle adds that the adaptation fund is an innovative mechanism that ensures that the majority of the funding reaches the areas where the impacts of climate change are felt. She says it is urgent that this mechanism is well funded.
