COP20 (09/12/14) – Susan McDade discusses how climate change affects men and women differently, disproportionately affecting women and particularly those in poorer areas. She emphasises the importance of having female policy makers at the negotiations and of listening carefully to relevant civil society groups. She argues that we need to be able to track climate finance more effectively and assess how much is reaching women, noting that we are currently lacking in data on the topic. She also stresses the need to educate male policy makers about gender issues. Susan then talks about the new working group on gender issues and looks at how the issue is being received in different parts of the world.
