COP20: Ryan Sarsfield, National Wildlife Federation

COP20 (11/12/14) – Ryan Sarsfield talks to RTCC about the importance of involving actors from across the supply chain in halting deforestation, particularly the producers given that they are often expected to implement solutions. He enthuses about the huge progress that has been made in combating deforestation in Brazil, and discusses some of the policies that have aided this process. However he says that change has in part come from a shift in attitudes in the agricultural sector towards reducing deforestation. He goes on to talk about the critical role of both consumers and leading companies within the supply chain in pushing for change, and discusses the role of certification in allowing consumers to take action on deforestation.
