COP20 (11/12/14) – Zedillo tells RTCC that for the first time Mexico has appointed a minister focusing on housing and urban planning. He then introduces Mexico’s first approved NAMA, a green mortgage program. The program has two aims, give mortgages for housing and administration of pension funds. The mortgage gives additional credit of up to $25 dollars a month if owners implement energy efficient eco-technologies. In order to monitor reductions Infonavit México are working with the german government to develop a system that establishes baselines according to the efficiencies of the house. This allows buyers to not only own an efficient home but also work towards a net zero house. The biggest challenges is educating people about the importance of responsible energy use so next year they are pushing a big communication agenda.
