Sergio enlightens Climate Home about the Brasilian transportation sector, which represents a huge share of the emissions from the energy sector. His company manages 860,000 vehicles and works to increase their sustainability by decreasing emissions and providing a carbon credit program that rewards people who switch from gasoline to ethanol. Sergio explains that the government is currently subsidising gasoline and car sales and not subsiding biofuels such as ethanol. He believes in the long term Brasil has to invest in restructuring their transportation sector such as installing railroads, however in the short term they need to incentivise biofuels in order to reduce emissions.
