Daniel is at Paris working on increasing the presence of forests in the climate change agenda. He explains that at the higher state level forests are not huge, but at the subnational level the presence of the forest agenda has been phenomenal. Jerry Brown the Californian governor has been active in mobilising governor’s globally to tackle forests, which will give a 20 gigaton reduction by 2030. Daniel explains that we need deforestation and forest degradation to reduce and increase in afforestation and regeneration. Tis could buy us 20-50 years in which to decarbonise the energy sector. Finally, Daniel comments on REDD+ and how whilst it is important there hasn’t been enough money available so it can reach its potential.
