Femke De Jong, Carbon Market Watch

Femke is at COP to talk about the dangers that hot air can impose on the Paris negotiations. Hot air is carbon permits that don’t represent real emissions reductions and when these are traded the planet loses out. Double counted reductions occur when more than one country claim the same emissions reduction is a type of hot air. To combat this there must be an international accounting framework that is enshrined in the Paris agreement. Carbon offsets can be hot air when credits are given to projects that don’t actually offset and when projects are over credited. Finally Jemke introduces a video game they have made where a climate superhero takes carbon out of the game by avoiding hot air problems.
