Oras Tynkkynen, Member of the Parliament of Finland, representing the Green League
The threat of climate change is now so urgent other avenues alongside the UN process must be explored.
That’s the view of Finnish MP Tynkkynen, who says that behind closed doors negotiators from the ‘Global North’ do not seem to understand the importance of taking fast and decisive actions.
“I’m getting a bit worried and a bit impatient – having seen so many COPs I feel we have been here before,” he said.
“I don’t think the critical mass is here yet. We hear it from interventions from the South, but when you come to action and the negotiations behind closed doors, then the urgency is clearly missing.
“I appreciate the UN process highly, but we need other avenues of action too – on any international and organisational levels we can find.”
