COP18: Positive action on climate change taking place at city level

COP18 (29/11/12) – Comrade Ayodele Adewale, Mayor of Amuwo Odofin local government area, Lagos, talks about the work that is being done at city level to prevent climate change and environmental degradation.

He talks about their work promoting recycling as a means of creating wealth, the strong laws in place to protect the environment and the educational activities done through stakeholder meetings.

While he says people in his region are enthusiastic about the information they receive he also warns that change can be difficult as many of these issues are also related to the economy. He says there is a lot of work in Amuwo Odofin to try and give people new forms of livelihood.

He talks about the work they are involved in with ICLEI, where they are able to push their agenda and their reforms at the international level.
