COP18: African countries stronger now they speak with one voice

COP18 (04/11/12) – Dr Anthony Nyong, Division Manager of Compliance and Safeguards at the African Development Bank talks about the modest gains that have been made in Africa on sustainable development.

He warns that climate change is a developmental issue and threatens the continent and says that the Bank aims to lend their voice to the process and support African negotiators and strengthen their capacity.

He says they also aims to help showcase what Africa does to help tackle climate change. He spoke of Africa’s history in the climate talks and how before the African Group was established in 2009 they did not have a coordinated voice. He says this has allowed the 54 nations to talk together and gain more than if they were all talking separately.

He talks about the work of the Bank in bringing this group together in for intersessional activities.
