COP18: Japanese students – government should not ignore Kyoto

COP18 (29/11/12) – Sim Jieun, Shiori Takano and Yuri Miyazaki, students at Doshisha University (Kyoto), describes their involvement in the World Student Environmental Network and their experiences at COP18.

The students describe the international summits convened by the World Student Environment Network and explain that students have an important role to play in solving climate change.

Miyazaki explains that Japan’s recent disaster has been a watershed moment for the Japanese environmental movement.

Takano expresses her dissatisfaction with the present lack of ambition from the Japanese government, arguing that even though the Kyoto Protocol does not cover the majority of global carbon emissions it is not right that the Japanese government simply ignores the protocol.
