COP18: Libya combats environmental problems after Gaddafi

COP18 (01/12/2012) – Abdul Munsif H. Elbun, Ambassador in Qatar at the Libyan Embassy, describes environmental problems in Libya after 42 years under the Gaddafi regime, where there was a considerable lack of regard for the environmental. He describes his shock for the environmental problems in Libya, especially around sewage, on his return after the revolution.

He says that to change this, they are going to start with education, teaching Libyan children how they should treat the environment to create awareness within the new generation. He says it is also important to create institutions to report violations of the environment.

At COP18, he says the Libyan delegation is learning from other countries and is looking for technical and financial help from historically responsible developed countries.
