COP18: Energy planning too complex for politicians

COP18 (1/12/12) – Daniel Kenning, Sustainability Consultant at Splendid Engineering explains why national energy plans require more input from engineers and less from politicians, who often don’t understand all the factors at play.

“We get politicians coming to us and saying ‘tell us what to do’, that’s my experience”, he tells RTCC.

“We’re already working closely with the UK’s Department for Energy and Climate Change on their ‘pathway to 2020’ planning.

Kenning also talks about his Future Climate Energy Solutions project, which has been running since 2008.

So far they have 23 national engineering organisations involved, working together through an online community www.fc-es.net to help national governments to develop sustainable energy plans.
