COP18: Breaking the link between poverty and climate change

COP18 (01/12/12) – Dr Yunusa Tanko of the National Conscience Party, Nigeria, explains how poverty is directly linked to climate change.

He says in vast parts of the country vegetation has been removed for fuel leaving the land vulnerable to land degradation.

Tanko says it is hard for people trying to survive abject poverty to take the environment into consideration when their primary concern is to ensure they have enough food to eat. Raising the economic standard for every citizen can break the cycle.
