CBD COP11 (10/10/2012) – Dr. Prem N. Mathur, South Asia Co-ordinator of Bioversity International, describes the problems faced by small-scale farmers in South Asia due to climate change, as well as some potential adaptation measures.

Mathur describes Bioversity International’s plans to assist these farmers in adapting to climate change through diversification of the range of crop species they use.

Mathur goes on to describe trials undertaken by his organisation to identify the most appropriate grain types for the changing climate in each region. He describes the regional patterns of climate change predicted in India, with Northern India predicted to be warmer by the IPCC, Western India predicted to be wetter and other regions of Indier drier.
