Sarala Gopalan (June 2010)

Where: Bonn 2010: 31st SBSTA & SBI; 12th AWG KP & 10th AWG LCA

Sarala Gopalan from National Institute of Agriculture, India, has a rich, detailed store of many aspects of farming in India. She talks about how her organisation has promoted use of more efficient tools, from sickles to mobile phones for small farmers. She gives the example of how they have built latrines, which mean that women no longer have to wait until dark, with the result of improved security and health. She explains how she is interested in the talks around mitigation and adaptation and backs this up with detailing her interest in biogas.  She finishes on explaining the advocacy work that's needed and says "we have to change the mindset to new ways of farming".
