COP19 (16/11/13) – Susan Carlson, World Farmers Organisation talks about why she believes agriculture is a part of the solution to climate change. She tells us that unfortunately a commitment to this was blocked by a few countries during the negotiations.
She says women farmers want to know how they can be a part of the solution to climate change. She says women want to be able to adapt to the ever-changing weather. Research, Carlson says, shows that through conservation practices farmers can draw greenhouse gas emissions into the soil.
Furthermore, she says, women farmers can be a part of the food security solution but they need equal access to knowledge and technologies.
She says we need to listen to what women farmers need and respond to these needs. Women, Carlson says, are the glue that hold families and communities together, therefore, we need to help empower them.
