COP19 (15/11/13) – Maimunah Jaffar the head of planning & compliance for Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Malaysia) talks about the need to address urban issues.
It is estimated the population of Iskandar, currently at 1.6 million people will increase to 3 million by 2025. Issues that could arise from the population growth need to be addressed now, says Jaffar, otherwise human settlements and an increase in carbon emission as well as other things may arise and it will be too late to deal with them then.
Jaffar is hopeful the region will reach international standing as a metropolis with a low carbon future.
