COP19 (19/11/13) – Peter Holmgren, Director General talks about the focus on forests at the UN Climate Talks. He says although forestry has featured a lot in the negotiations so far, the REDD process needs to include agriculture and land uses in its discussions in order to find common solutions.
Holmgren says we need to realise that agriculture does not need to be at odds with forestry. He says both sectors can work together to find combined solutions through a landscapes approach which is encouraged by conferences like the Global Landscapes Forum.
He says there are many examples of successful landscape approaches that have been implemented over the last decade.
He is looking to include a landscapes approach in discussions on the REDD process at the talks.
