COP19 (19/11/13) – David J. Wrathall an Associate Academic Officer at the United Nations University talks about their research on climate impacts using mobile data.
He says that mobile data can tell you a lot about populations and their reactions to climate impacts.
From mobile phone data you can get an idea of peoples’ travel patterns, where they are and even the spread of diseases and the impacts of earthquake responses.
This technology is fantastic for getting an idea of what is happening with a specific population, however long term observations can help us understand how populations change over time like seasonal migration.
