COP19 (22/11/13) -Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou a Member of Greek Parliament talks about the Greek position on climate change as well as their EU presidency.
She says that people in Greece are sensitive to the issue of climate change as their most valuable asset as a nation is the climate and nature.
Greece will hold the EU presidency in the next six months and whilst in that position they hope to make the EU a leader in a low carbon economy. They hope member states will look at creating better strategies and policies on renewable energy.
One thing the Greek presidency will be pushing is ‘blue growth’. They want to incorporate policies focusing on the sea as part of the mitigation effort. They believe greater focus on managing natural resources related to the sea as well a how it can absorb C02 and provide renewable energy could be beneficial addition to conversation on climate change.
