COP19 (14/11/13) Nikola Rass and Khatim Kherraz speak to RTCC about their work with countries in the Sahara and Sahel region.
They work with countries to help observe what is happening to environment.
The team uses earth observation systems and ground measures to asses the likely impacts of climate change so that governments can be better prepared for them.
The Sahara and Sahel Observatory is currently working with Mali’s Environment Ministry, to better prepare them for periods of floods and droughts – both events that severely affect the country. The work that the observatory does allows governments to know where and when these events could happen.
